Title

Gas Mask

Description

One British WWII era respirator/gas mask with attached filter. Mask has dual glass eyepieces rather than a single view screen. On left side of mask is circular rubber protrusion (possibly microphone port?). There are a series of elastic straps which are sewn to the back of the mask, enabling it to be tightened to the wearer's face. Where straps intersect is a leather piece which is stamped in white ink with the British military sign and reads "No. 4 III/B 1?/42/PAT. Nos. 296,493 & 305,080. Attached to the nose section of the mask is a flat piece of rubber called a flutter valve which is stamped with "N.B.R. 259! A/5 I 42" in pink ink. On the left hand side of the mask is stamped "L&B.R.C/1? 3 1 42/LOT 179 B" in white ink. On the right hand side of the mask is stamped "B?RF/?/2/42". Filter is made from metal, painted black, with one green and one red stripe painted around the outside of it. Filter is attached to mask using metal O-ring clamp.
